Volusia County residents who need home repairs or insurance deductible payments due to damage caused by Hurricane Matthew may apply for assistance through the county’s Community Assistance Division.

Applications for the Hurricane Matthew Disaster Recovery Program are available online at and at these locations: 
•Volusia County Community Assistance office, 110 Rich Ave., DeLand, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday 
•Disaster Recovery Center at the Florida Department of Health, 1845 Holsonback Drive, Daytona Beach from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday 
•Volusia County regional libraries in Daytona Beach, DeLand, Deltona, Ormond Beach and Port Orange during regular branch hours

The disaster recovery program is funded by Volusia County’s State Housing Initiatives Partnership program to assist residents who own and occupy their home and have already applied for FEMA assistance. If residents have homeowner insurance, they must have already filed a claim.

Applicants must live in Volusia County, but not within the city limits of Deltona or Daytona Beach. Residents applying for assistance for manufactured homes are eligible only if the home was constructed after June 1994 and the resident owns the land where the home is located.

Applicants’ household income may not exceed 120 percent of the area median income.

Completed applications may be dropped off in person or mailed to Volusia County Community Assistance, 110 W. Rich Ave., DeLand, FL 32720. How much does a flood really cost?

Personal Lines Insurance Agent Keri Harris gave a presentation on flood insurance in Florida to a fantastic group of realtors at Exit Realty today. She discussed many of the common misconceptions about flood insurance, what is covered, how to obtain accurate quotes and coordinate with your other coverages. She also discussed new Florida requirements regarding proof of occupancy, assignment of benefits and other critical factors when considering flood.

Keri reviewed sample elevation certifcates and quotes, she also clarified the different types of flood zones, because if you live in Florida... you're in one! The whole state is a flood zone, and there is a lot to know when it comes to determining what that means for YOUR home wether its a rental, owner occupied, investment or bank-owned. She also discussed different types of coverage risks and riders, along with policy exlcusions that many home owners are not aware of.
